換掉這15個動詞,你的英文也可以很商務!
用英文信件溝通時,其實只要替換掉句子當中的動詞,就可以加重你給予外國客戶的專業形象!以下舉幾個例子給大家參考,也歡迎大家留言分享常用的商用英文喔!
1. give → provide
如果今天要跟外國客戶索取文件或是電話時,可以將常用的"give"替換成"provide"。
e.g.:
Could you give us a copy of the sales report?
(可以請您給我們一份銷售報告的影本嗎?)
Could you provide us with a copy of the sales report?
(可以請您提供一份銷售報告的影本給我們嗎?)
2. get → receive
接收到客戶的訊息,除了可以使用"get"之外,"receive"也是可以的,而且更為精準喔!
e.g.:
Did you get the message I sent you yesterday?
(你有收到我昨天寄給你的訊息嗎?)
Did you receive the customer complaint form?
(你有收到客戶投訴表嗎?)
3. come → attend
當有活動或者是會議要出席時,我們可以用"attend"來取代常用的"come"。
e.g.:
I'm sorry but I can't come to your brother's wedding.
(對不起,我無法出席你哥哥的婚禮。)
I'm sorry but I can't attend this week's meeting.
(我很抱歉我無法出席這禮拜的會議。)
4. make sure → ensure
當你希望客戶確保東西的正確性時,除了口語的"make sure"之外,"ensure"也有確保的意思。
e.g.:
Please make sure you follow the recipe I gave you.
(請確保你有照著我給你的食譜做。)
Please ensure you follow my instructions carefully.
(請確保你有小心地照著我的指示做。)
5. let you know → inform
讓你知道,口語上可以用"let you know"在書信上可以使用"inform"。
e.g.:
I will let you know later if I can meet you for lunch.
(我等會兒會告訴你我是否可以跟你共進中餐。)
Later I will inform you of the reports I need.
(待會兒我會告訴你我需要那些報告。)
6. help → assist
請求協助的時候,"help"可以替換成"assist",如此一來給人的感覺就會是比較委婉的求救。
e.g.:
I need you to help John with his homework.
(我需要你幫助John寫功課。)
I need you to assist the customer with his laptop.
(我需要你協助客戶處理他的筆電。)
7. book → reserve
如果要預約或是訂房,一般而言可以使用"book",但在商用上,"reserve"可能更為專業。
e.g.:
It's better to book your train tickets early during the holiday season.
(你連假期間的火車票最好早一點預定。)
It's better to reserve your seat for the seminar as soon as possible.
(最好盡快為研討會預留座位。)
8. answer → reply
回覆的英文,"reply"或是"answer"都很常被使用,但在商英裡頭"reply"比較常在信件裡頭使用;"answer"多半運用在電話中,兩者同時也都能夠當作動詞與名詞,表回覆。
e.g.:
When are you going to answer my phone?
(你甚麼時候才要接我的電話?)
When will you reply to my email?
(你甚麼時候才會回信?)
Are you coming over? I need your answer by this afternoon.
(你要過來嗎?下午我需要你的答案。)
I need your reply by this afternoon.
(我這個下午需要你的回覆。)
9. choose → select
當你需要客戶做出選擇時,可以使用"select"來替代"choose"。
e.g.:
You may choose the color you like.
(你可以選擇你喜歡的顏色。)
You may select the sample reports to print.
(你可以選擇樣本報告來列印。)
10. tell about → explain
當你必須解釋、說明相關的簡報時,可以用"explain"來取代"tell about"。
e.g.:
Can you tell me about the book you've just read?
(可以跟我說那本你剛剛在讀的書說了甚麼嗎?)
Please explain these sales figures (to me).
(請解釋這些銷售數據給我聽。)
11. hand in → submit
當你需要提交相關數據或是報告時,可以使用"submit"或是"hand in",如同許多註冊網站,提交帳號註冊時都會使用"submit"這個單字。
e.g.:
I need to hand in my English writing assignment.
(我必須交出我的英文功課。)
I need to submit my weekly report to the finance department.
(我需要提交我的周報給財物部門。)
12. sorry → apologize
如果做錯事要道歉,"sorry"是一個常見的用法對象主要會是小孩或是自己的朋友,但商業用法,或是正式場合,可以使用更高級的詞語"apologize"。
e.g.:
You should say sorry for making her worry.
(你必須為他的擔心道歉。)
We should apologize for making the customer wait.
(我們必須對讓客戶等待感到抱歉。)
13. talk about → discuss
當部門之間有事情要討論,可以用"discuss"來取代"talk about"。
e.g.:
Let's talk about how to solve this math problem.
(來討論一下如何解決這個數學問題吧!)
Let's discuss what information to put in this report.
(來討論要加入甚麼資訊在這份報告吧。)
14. get ready → prepare
準備事情,兩種用法都很常聽到,但在商用信件或是文書上,"prepare"比較常用。
e.g.:
We're working hard to get ready for our class presentation.
(我們正在努力準備我們課堂上的簡報。)
We've been working late to prepare for our sales report.
(我們一直在努力為我們的銷售報告做準備。)
15. get in touch with → contact
這兩種關於洽談、聯繫的方式都有人在使用,但由於寫信時為了篇幅,多半都使用"contact"來表達洽談的意思。
e.g.:
I tried to get in touch with you about the Christmas party.
(我試著跟你說明關於聖誕派對的事情。)
I tried to contact you about next week's sales meeting.
(我試著跟你聯繫關於下禮拜行銷會議的事情。)
